After three years of the war its possible outcomes expectations are much more pessimistic than three months after the russian aggression begun. The prospects of justice and international law restoration, Ukrainian sovereignity protection, war crimes punishment and compensation of the losses are doubtful as never before.
The past three years were a story of multilateral support of the Ukrainian fight for freedom. But the outcomes of presidential elections in the USA have changed the state of affairs.
The 180-degree turn of the US position concerning the russian aggression against Ukraine created a new reality around this conflict. The American perception of the war has become visibly pro-russian and commercialized.
Ukrainian Greens condemn American demand for access to Ukrainian natural resources as compensation for the military and other aid already got from the US.
First, the war is not the time for any business deal. Any deals can take place only after the war is finished and with consideration of its results.
Second, there is no legal basis for this demand. All the conditions of the aid in 2022-2024 were approved by the US Administration and Congress, and there was nothing about any commercial profit from it.
Third, the real costs of the aid received in different forms are at least three times lower than the present American leadership announced.
Fourth, according to the logic of the proposed deal, the revenues from the Ukrainian natural resources will be used partly for the post-war rebuilding. It means that Ukraine will pay for its restoration itself. Meanwhile, the issue of the frozen russian assets for military and/or rebuilding purposes is out of the US leadership's attention.
Fifth, nothing in the proposed agreement ensures Ukrainian security either now or in the future. And last, but not least - this controversial "deal" will predictably split and frustrate Ukrainian society.
We have no words to comment the moral side of the American demand.
