[ANTICORRUPTION PROTESTS] Kyiv protests: anti-corruption slogans joined by left-wing ones

On July 23, protests against the government's unwillingness to fight corruption took place in Kyiv and other cities, triggered by the adoption of bill No. 12414. The Social Movement team joined the unprecedented wartime rally of nearly 10,000 people on Ivan Franko Square.

With the slogan “Eternal Corruptor,” we decided to remind everyone that the oligarchic system is doomed to corruption, and the concentration of wealth in the hands of a few leads to abuse. Indeed, the reason for the mass discontent was the fear that the independence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) would be undermined in favor of the presidential vertical. But behind this lies widespread outrage at the authorities' inability to satisfy the demand for social justice. While the people are paying for the country's future with their lives and health, the elite are illegally enriching themselves and looking for ways to avoid responsibility. This throws us back to the realities of savage capitalism, where everyone has to fight hard for their rights in order to survive.

To illustrate the contradictions of the moment, we read a poem alluding to the “Hymn” by the outstanding Kamenyar (written by Dmytro Kuper):

“Eternal corruptor:

The spirit that tears the body to the sea,

Tears for yachts and offshore accounts...”

And even if capitalists and their corrupt servants have real influence today, if the broad masses organize themselves, the accumulated revolutionary energy will renew the country. It is not comfort for business, but the happiness of ordinary heroes from the working people that will determine the content of politics!

During the protest, slogans were chanted:

– Oligarchs into the trenches. A bullet in the forehead – yes, a bullet in the forehead!

– Parasitic deputies are not letting the people live!

– You give us corruption, we give you revolution!

We call on you to join the protests in your cities to unite in the struggle for a free, united, and social Ukraine!
